Extension and Kitchen Re-design - Holmesfield, Derbyshire

My client’s specification was for an oak frame extension on the back of a semi-detached house to create a larger, more usable space to house the kitchen dining room an office. The client currently has a kitchen/diner with conservatory but requires a re-design utilising the proposed extension into a new kitchen and dining room. The client is a keen sewer and requires space to do this within the space. The design is based on a country kitchen integrating the families taste.

Gallery Ten

Gallery Ten is a live/work art gallery housing ten artists for two years at a time. The gallery has temporary and permenant gallery spaces, artists studios and accomodation for artists and staff as well as a cafe and gift shop. The idea behind the gallery design came from the works of the photographer Mark McGowan. The theme of photography and cameras has been used throughout the design, from the architecture of the builidng through to the use of lighting and reflection. The theme of movement evolved from camera lenses and shutter speeds which was then manipulated into the design via the solar shading, versitle moving gallery screens and the extruding bedroom pods. The colopur scheme also evolved from the work of McGowan, in particular his work 'caught by the river' and 'dodgy alley', these phographs are both grey scale with either a flash of bright orange or vibrant blue. The grey background colour of the concrete and stone has been chosen to allow the art work to stand out against the plainer backdrop.

Bathroom Renovation - Ludlow, Shropshire

These are three design solutions for a bathroom renovation of a barn conversion in Ludlow, Shropshire. The client wanted the most cost effected and design effective way to renovate their existing bathroom. The main issue that occurred was that the fact that boiler was across the corridor and therefore a design was needed to carry the water pipes across the corridor and into the bathroom. Another problem was the positioning of the soil pipe and the costs that would occur if the soil pipe would have to be moved due to the new layout of the bathroom, therefore three designs were produced to give the client a choice of design and costs.

Conservation and Reuse

The Design House is an office for freelance designers who need space to work away from home. It includes a gym and cafe where the occupants can relax away from their office which they may not be able to do if they were freelances working from home. The Design House provides a design environment for creative minds. Reclaimed storage containers are used for the individual offices which can be brought into the building as and when needed. This creates a temporary multi-functional office space which can be returned to its previous state easily.
